How To: Use barn door lighting in your studio

Use barn door lighting in your studio

Ben for Mechanical Mashup demonstrates how to build a barn door halogen light system for a studio and how to establish right triangles and parallel lined without a square. It is quiet expensive to buy a barn doors according Ben, so it could be built by us. These barn doors can be adjusted anyway we want to. So the barn doors are to be fixed to a halogen light. First thing done is to unscrew the frame of the halogen light. The glass is removed by just bending the frame. Next thing to do is to cut of the sheet metals to make the doors. Now there is a hinge with a center punch to make it nice and sticky because the original hinge just flops. The punch in the center of the hinge is made. Next thing done is mark and pre-drill the hinge holes on the frame of the halogen light. Drill tapping screws to the hinge holes made. Barn doors are marked and cut form the metal sheet next. These metal sheets are said to get twisted but it can be straightened by hammering back. Cut and flatten the edges. Hinge holes are marked and drilled to the sheets. Rivet the hinges to the cutouts. The back of the rivet is smashed. The sheets are then painted in black. Connect the frame back to the light and screw the sheets to the frame. The barn doors are ready. Ben says that it would take only about 45 minutes.
